Everything was well-maintained, courteous staff, excellent views out to the garden and table setting. The rooms were very affordable and perfectly comfortable, with private bathroom. The American breakfast was GREAT, enjoyed this place.

The staff and service was superb. They recommended a japanese pub for dinner, but were worried it was hard to find, so they took us there (and it was excellent). The grounds were beautiful, as were the buildings.
The room itself was a little musty and smelly, but we were still quite happy with our selection and Hakone was amazing.

An Lovely Experience in a Timeless Hotel!
This historic stay quickly became a favorite! I loved the exquisite and unique décor throughout the hallways. Dining at Cascade for my birthday was a culinary delight, especially the seasonal dishes. I recommend visiting the public bath for ultimate relaxation after exploring Hakone.

I liked the rich history and the old aesthetics. It was really neat to be surrounded by nature,in the mountains, but still have a very nice, luxurious visit. Most of the staff spoke a little English too.
Some of the food was a bit over priced [especially in the lounge area] and there isn't much for little ones or people running on a tight budget to do. Also, since it's an old building, you can hear the people next to you quite easily.

More than adequate and good breakfasts with multiple courses. Good and unbeatable position, near the train station. Nestled near restaurants and canteens.

Location just off the cable car, gondola, the hotels own garden which is nice and worth a walk around and the nearby onsen called Kanrei. Perfect service and well heated rooms on a beautiful garden.

A very nice place, if you wish to walk 100 m+ from the entrance to your room. VERY expensive, but not if you are into snobby hotels. Interesting history. Breakfast outrageously expensive, better to buy something at the bakery and at Lawsons

Very little. Over priced and in dire need of updating

beautiful and charming old building, stunning japanese garden, very friendly staff, beautiful natural settings
The interiors need some renovation: yes, the hotel is charming because it is old, but it wouldn't lose a bit of its charm if the bathrooms were new. At the moment, they look run down, not charming.

The Fujiya Hotel is steeped in history so staying at this hotel was an experience in itself and perfect for relaxing. Room was a great size (compared to Tokyo) and we requested additional bed for our child. Main reason for staying is the central location for the Hakone National Park (a must see with views of Mount Fuji). The hotel has a wonderful spa, free to all residents as well as a swimming pool. Kids enjoyed the history of the hotel museum with previous residents including John Lennon, Neil Armstrong and several royal dignitaries, as well as walking through the traditional Japanese gardens.
Price of hotel meals was high and there is limited options outside of the hotel but things are available if looking hard enough, although most close quite early. Wifi is a common feature nowadays but only available in the lobby area. Wired internet connection was available in the room - difficult with ipad or iphone!
